Krysta Thompson is a Family Nurse Practitioner by day and an ER Registered Nurse by night. She started her nursing journey 12 years ago as an Associate Degree prepared RN in a busy ER in the Texas Medical Center. Her RN experience includes ER (her first love), pediatric endocrinology, pediatric primary care, and family primary care. In 2017, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and in March of 2019, she passed her national certification board examination, officially certifying her as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
As an RN, Krysta has served as clinic lead during her pediatric endocrinology days at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX; member of nursing hiring committee at TCH in the endocrinology clinic; head charge nurse for day shift at CHI St. Luke’s Brazosport Hospital in Lake Jackson, TX; and member of Nurse Staffing and Retention Committee at CHISLBH.
In her new role of FNP, Krysta is assisting in relaunching a former pediatric primary care clinic into a complete family practice, offering everything from newborn screenings to annual well woman exams to geriatric chronic health management, and quite literally everything in between. She is a member of Texas Nurse Practitioners, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and Brazosport Area Nurse Practitioners. Her short-term career goal is to transition into a full-time position at her current family practice location within the next few months, with a long-term goal of owning that family practice within five years, eventually growing it into the largest and most comprehensive family practice in the area. And someday when she gets over the trauma of grad school, she might consider going back for her doctorate.
In her personal life, Krysta stays just as busy as she does in her professional life. She has been married to the love of her life, James, for the last 11 years and is the proud mommy of two self-proclaimed wild hyenas: Lincoln (8) and Lawson (5). She is the music director and worship leader at church, The Lighthouse Church of West Columbia, TX, where she has attended under the pastorship of her dad, Danny Johnson, for 25 years. She teaches the nursery class on Wednesday nights, substitutes for teaching youth class whenever needed, helps chaperone youth trips and activities, leads a small group for moms, and participates in as much as she possibly can in the incredibly wide variety of activities that her church gets involved in within the community. Krysta’s current hobbies include (in no particular order) sleeping, reading Ted Dekker novels, playing with her boys, spending time with her hubby, researching which meal delivery service is healthiest and cheapest (there’s not one that combines both of those, in case you’re wondering), and trying to train the newest family member: Axle, a 4-month-old chocolate labrador.
